Arrest made in Ponce Inlet golf course beating

Police on Tuesday made an arrested in a brutal beating at a Volusia County golf course over the weekend.
Investigators said they believe the suspect, who was golfing, attacked 63-year-old Richard Fillingame, who confronted him at the Harbor Village Golf and Yacht Club in Ponce Inlet on Saturday.
A golf ball hit Fillingame’s truck along A1A near the golf club, so he stopped and confronted the golfer, authorities said. The confrontation turned into a brawl, which left Fillingame hospitalized.
“I just watched this dude and another guy rolling down the hill beating the (expletive) out of each other and this dude looks unconscious as hell on the hill,” said a witness to 911.
“The victim remembers nothing of this, so you can tell it was extremely vicious,” said Lt. Max Binz with Ponce Inlet Police Department.
In a report, a witness described the suspect’s arm punching the victim like a piston.
Most of the witnesses were people driving along A1A. They spotted the two men rolling down a steep hill, but they didn’t get a good look at the suspect, who ran away after beating the victim repeatedly.
“Where’s the guy who beat the guy up?” asked the 911 operator.
“I don’t know, he just took back off over the hill,” a witness said.
“We know that he’s white male, we know he’s somewhere in his 20s to 30s and he was last seen (possibly) wearing a light colored shirt and khaki shorts,” Binz said.
Police said the golfer whose golf ball hit the car would be responsible for the damage.
The suspect will face assault and battery charges
