Police investigate cabbie robberies

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —The armed robberies of two cabbies have some rethinking their line of work.

A cabbie was struck in the face with the barrel of a shotgun early Monday, and one day earlier, another driver was targeted.
It was dark during Monday morning’s armed robbery, but there were plenty of people around Daytona’s Last Call as the cab driver waited for a customer.
For another cab driver Sunday, the robbery happened during the day.
“I got a shotgun right in my face,” cab driver Thomas O’Hare said.
O’Hare, 71, was parked near the city’s Greyhound Bus Terminal on Sunday afternoon. Southern Komfort taxi drivers find shade where they can.
The person who approached O’Hare’s taxi wasn’t carrying any luggage.
“I smiled at him, you know. He says, ‘I’m not fooling,’ and he wasn’t. I say, ‘OK,’ you know. It’s basically your money or your life,” O’Hare said.
A fellow driver, Brian Neill, was parked across the way and just happened to glance up. ….
