Boy, 4, hit by car in Port Orange

PORT ORANGE —
A four-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after police say he left a motel room on his own and got hit by a car while crossing a busy Port Orange highway.
The accident happened around 9 a.m. Friday just South of Dunlawton Ave. on U.S. 1.
Investigators say the boy was staying with his parents at the Dusk to Dawn Motel on US -1 and was able to get out of the room without his parents knowing.
Cops say his father left for work sometime around 8:30 a.m.
Police say the boy crossed northbound US-1 and even made it to the southbound lane. It was when he tried getting back to the motel room that he was struck by a person driving a Jaguar.
The boy was taken as a trauma alert to Halifax Health Medical Center for a broken leg.
Port Orange Police say they are still investigating the accident.
