DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. —Two construction workers were hurt when a fire broke out on scaffolding at a Daytona Beach Shores high-rise Wednesday morning.
The scaffolding was outside a16th-floor unit at the Oceans One condominium on Atlantic Avenue.
One worker was transported with leg burns and concern about smoke inhalation, and the other worker had minor burns and was treated on scene
The scaffolding motor caught fire and ignited some chemicals that construction workers were using.
It’s unclear why the motor caught fire.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the small blaze from inside the condo and adjacent units.
“The big fear would be that the fire would spread and cause one of the cables to snap and people would fall, and it all held together well for this,” said Sgt. Bill Frank with the Daytona Beach Shores police.
The Shores’ highest ladder truck reaches 72 feet and the fire as far higher than that.
