Subject: Follow up – Lighting concern – Taylor Rd & Country Lane

Mayor Green,
Please refer back to my original message below.  I’ve not heard from anyone in reference to my concerns about the lighting at Taylor Road and Country Lane.  Do you have any idea if this request has been reviewed?
Thanks,
Cindy Pagliari

Subject: Lighting concern – Taylor Rd & Country Lane

Mayor Green,
I respectfully request your attention into a safety matter concerning the pedestrians using the route involving the northeast corner of Taylor Rd and Country Lane.  I’ve previously presented this request to the Eastside Community Traffic Safety Team with a negative response returned from the City of Port Orange.  I’m in hopes that it can be readdressed through my personal concerns as a parent, motorist, and long time member of the community.
There are a good number of high school students that routinely walk/bicycle along Taylor Rd headed to the high school very early each morning.  When the times change and it is extremely dark well past 7am, it is nearly impossible for motorist to see anyone trying to cross this particular area while committing to a left hand turn going east bound along Taylor Rd turning onto north bound Country Lane.   This same concern could be addressed anytime during nighttime hours for all pedestrians.  This intersection is fairly wide and includes a median into the entrance of Countryside.  There is lighting along the northwest corner (church) that comes no where close to illuminating the entire area.
I know that we can not be responsible for lighting up all of Port Orange.  In this particular instance, I do feel there is a significant safety concern along with a very simple solution.  Simple solutions are probably something that you don’t hear very often!  There is a utility pole on the northeast corner.  I’m not sure of its dedication and certainly not familiar with any electrical limitations.  I would like to request that some sort of lighting be installed from this pole to illuminate the area.  Of course, there is always the issue of expense.  I know that lighting is a big part of any budget and I am in hopes that we have targeted funds for safety concerns in particular.
Thanks for your consideration into this matter.
Respectfully,
Cindy Pagliari
