PORT ORANGE, Fla. –
Classrooms were evacuated early Tuesday at a Port Orange elementary school after a Christmas tree caught fire, according to Volusia County school officials.
Eight classrooms at Sweetwater Elementary were evacuated after the assistant principal found the fire during a walk-through of the school just before 6:30 a.m.
It’s not clear when exactly the tree ignited, but officials said they believe it wasn’t burning for long before it was discovered.
