Loud explosions rattling windows on homes in Volusia and Flagler counties are coming from the Ocala National Forest are, and more specifically the Pinecastle Range Complex.
The noise is Navy aircraft practicing live bombing runs, a spokeswoman said Monday. The aircraft are from the carrier USS George H.W. Bush off the east coast of Florida, said Kaylee Larocque, public affairs officer for the U.S. Naval Station in Jacksonville.
“The training has been going for the past two weeks and we should be done by Wednesday,” Larocque said.
The Navy is carrying out live bombings in the Ocala National Forest and the explosions will be heard for intermittent periods in surrounding areas. Monday training was to end at 5 p.m. The training will the resume at noon Tuesday and continue until 5 p.m., Larocque said.
The telephone number for noise complaints is 800-874-5059 at Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility Jacksonville.
