Gentlemen,
Please take a look at the attached photos.
First, let me say that I am thrilled that the City is finally starting to make some sort of effort towards getting the Dunlawton corridor in acceptable condition.  However, I remain completely perplexed how other areas of the City continue to get neglected.  The attached photos (with more to come) are of the Town West medians.  They are completely deplorable! I encourage each of you to ask for the original landscaping plans and investments that were initially made to make these medians look fabulous, only several years ago.  Then ask yourselves, “how did they get to this current condition.”  Further, let’s ask, “How to we stop the cycle of making great investments in our City and then not protecting them and caring for them?”
Who is responsible and accountable for allowing this to have happened?  This is a corridor that leads to some of the newest and fastest growing communities in Port Orange.  Almost all of the grass is dead or has been overtaken be excessive amounts of weeds.  Hundreds of the original shrubs and plants have died, been removed and never replaced.  The ones that remain are sickly looking.  Is this really the look we are striving for?  Is this acceptable to any of you?  If I am not mistaken, these medians have irrigation and are connected to reclaimed water.  How has this happened!  The residents in that area deserve better!
I am asking each of you to PLEASE make a stand and demand this get the attention it deserves right now!  No public roadway or medians in Port Orange should ever look this disgraceful!
Kind Regards!
Scott

    Greg,
The condition of the medians on Town West Blvd. is unacceptable and needs immediate attention, The property owners that have bought homes and invested in that area deserve better. Also I was traveling on Dunlawton this morning and I am thrilled that the refurbishment of the medians has started but it looks like most of the newly installed sod is dead, very brown with little to no green grass. The landscape contractor needs to be notified that if the sod does not recover he will be expected to resod the area at no expense to the city. Thank you for your attention to these matters.

    Drew:
I have asked Public Works to look at the medians in Town West to improve their appearance. These medians have been maintained at a level of twenty-four (24) cuts per year.
The sod on Dunlawton is a result of the material being cut this time of the year (cold and freezing). The contractor understands that if the sod doesn’t recover they will be expected to replace the material.

    Greg,
From the pictures provided it doesn’t appear to be related to number of cuts, there are many weeds and the little bit of sod is in terrible condition. if I am not mistaken I believe those medians are irrigated with reclaimed water. The sod in that area is in poor condition, I am guessing that we have no pest/weed/fertilizing going on in those medians, we may need to look at adding this area to a maintenance program. Thank you for getting back with me so quickly.

Let’s see 24 cuts per year is basically once every 2 weeks. In looking at the photographs provided by Scott this is obviously not the case. Why do we continue to get watered down answers ? Can Council not add 2+2? If they are happy with all of the Staff replies then perhaps they are a larger part of the problem themselves. It’s time for Council to stand up and take charge. They DO have the authority. We are all sick and tired of silly excuses. A management team likened to that of F Troop is not acceptable to citizens. How much longer can the comedy of errors continue before Council replaces them. The dog can’t possibly eat their homework every day. Can he ?
