Spraying in the medians by City Worker March 27, 2014 10:18 AM

Mr. City Manager,
This morning I observed a City worker on a small four wheeler heavily spraying around landscape beds, sign post and other objects in the medians on Dunlawton Ave. Is this weed killer (Round Up)? I can only assume that it is as I can’t imagine what else they would be spraying in those areas.
I want to point out that in the bid for the last landscape maintenance, as well as in the mandatory pre-bid meeting, the contractors interested in bidding were told NO SPRAYING for weeds, and that the beds must be “hand pulled” clean of weeds. Further I want to point out that in the council meeting Tuesday night, I was under the impression that the Mayor wanted the City staff to perform the work as it was dictated in the last bid document so that a true grasp and understanding of exactly what it takes to get the job done correctly per the bid requirements could be obtained.
Obviously weed spraying can be performed for a fraction of the cost and man hours of hand pulling weeds. Can you confirm for me exactly what it was that the City worker was spraying this morning? See video attached.

Good morning Gentelman,
At the Council meeting Tuesday night the Public Works Director indicated that her crews were trimming and edging the beds in the Dunlawton medians properly. Please take a look at these pictures. (Mayor, I know you said you would check yourself, but I figured I would save you a trip!) Clearly these beds have not been edged out properly in some time and have lost their basic shape and boundaries around the trees.
This is an accurate snapshot of the general results all up and down Dunlawton and elsewhere in the CIty. Would this be acceptable at your home or business?
