This article illustrates that the efforts that our city has started will take a long time. ALSO we should be working to do more and be proactive in addressing the obstacles.
Zombie homes and homes and business that are accumulating fines and liens in excess of value. The city must find a solution other than and/or in addition to fines and fees. Leaving these eyesores, safety and health hazards is not an option, paying for the upkeep on the taxpayer dime and collecting less than the real cost, because lenders and bankruptcies are not paying is not equitable or acceptable.
In the last Managers Update, Community Development was charged to work on this issue. I would like to point out that it is a legal issue of liens and taxes (Holly Hill vs property appraiser), involves fire and life safety and law enforcement.
Dealing with this will be at the heart of redevelopment and preventing the need for it as our city ages. Let’s not be shy or slow in dealing with this. Let’s get the effort started in involve all aspects in the solution.

How about this for an idea. TRY ENFORCING EXISTING REGULATIONS AND ORDINANCES BEFORE IMPLEMENTING NEW ONES.
The people are already well served with sufficient State health regulations and City code ordinances that address habitation standards within and visual appearance from the street.
Municipal rental inspection programs are nothing more than yet another way to grow government through an unwarranted intrusion into the rights of property owners.
WHERE DO THE CANDIDATES STAND ON THIS ISSUE ???
