I am pleased to announce that I have been informed by a representative from the Florida Rural Water Association that the Port Orange Water Treatment Plant has been selected to receive the FRWA Florida State Award for the 2014 “Public Water System of the Year”. An official letter announcing this from the FRWA is forthcoming and should be sent out via email sometime today or shortly thereafter.
I congratulate my staff and all of the support staff from the various Public Utilities divisions that have made this award possible for all their hard work and dedication. I am very proud and fortunate to have so many talented and dedicated individuals to work with.

Congratulations water plant and maintenance people! You guys keep setting a high standard for the city despite all of the managerial problems! Maybe they should put you guys in charge! If the rest of the city ran like the water plant just think of where we would be as a city right now. You guys are amazing!!
Congrats guys. To think you did it ALL BY YOURSELVES without the help of Jason Yarborough, who knew nothing and was earning a six figure salary. Keep an eye on his facebook page to make sure he doesn’t add this to his profile as one of his accomplishments.
It is truly a blessing that the city doesn’t have to worry about how your division is being run during this turmoil within the city.
That is the third State award you guys won this year. What is your formula for success? I would like the recipe so I can patent it and bottle it. Keep up the great work, you guys are a sterling example of what open governance aspires to.
I liked visiting this operation during their recent open house. They run about as transparent of an operation as I have ever witnessed. Very knowledgeable and open staff and a very well managed operation. The facility was wide open to the public and the whole operation was impeccable. This is what the taxpayers want to see in a major city operation. Keep up the great work!
Good to see one department functioning well and thriving. Kudos !
Thank you for the outstanding tour that you gave to my son. You were all very inspirational to him. He took your advise and ordered the Sacramento State College Water Treatment course and is now working on it to study for his water plant operator’s license.
I was made aware of your innovative tank mixing project utilizing solar mixing technology and ultrasonic devices for reduction of chlorine demand and interstitial biofilm formation. I read this in your award submission to thr FRWA which resulted in your being selected the best water production operation on the State of Florida. My understanding is that your process control augmentation is saving your city hundreds of thousands of dollars. I will be contacting you soon to pick your brain so that I might implement this unique configuration in our operation. Kudos to your management team, and hopefully the organization you work for appreciates thr contribution your team has.made.
I was reading the city manager read file and saw that your staff will be attending a conference to receive the award that you guys won for the citizens of Port Orange. I take comfort in knowing that you fine professionals are serving the public 24/7 and ensuring that are health and welfare is vouchsafed in your stewardship of this most precious resource. Thank you all and good luck at the conference representing the citizens of Port Orange. Bring that award back to Port Orange and continue to do the citizens proud!
