WOW. Our new council member wants to sell Port Orange’s golf course. It has never cost the tax payers a nickel but it should be sold because golfing industry is going down hill. What an about face from the campaign!!!!!

STILTNER2
Councilman Scott Stiltner

Scott Stiltner’s response to Lance Green:
 .
WOW Lance! Since I am certainly the “new councilman” you are talking about, perhaps you can post the part of the meeting last night (since it’s on video) where I stated that “I want to sell the golf course.” I, and perhaps others here that have chimed in on your post, would really like to see where I said that. I suspect you will have great difficulty finding that part, since what you have posted that I allegedly said, is NOT true and does not exist. But I look forward to you posting the part where I said I wanted to sell the golf course.
.
Now, if you would like to post some absolute facts about the issue, then let’s start with these. In 1991 the City tax payers loaned what is now Cypress Head Golf Course $4.2 million. That was due to be repaid back to the City Water and Utilities Fund by the golf course. As you well know, 22 years later, that loan has not been paid back and for the past 2 years the course has not been able to pay their loan debt payments. So to date the Cypress Head Golf Course is $1,570,000 in debt. The council is now considering a new loan to the golf course of $1.25 million for some much needed renovations (which will actually end up being about $1.6 million because of additional soft cost while the course is shut down.) Inclusive of that, Kemper wants an agreement that they would not have to make any payments on the new debt until the year 2017. Thus, this time next year, the Cypress Head Golf Course will be $3.1 million in debt. THAT IS A FACT! It is also a course that has NEVER been debt free. To make things a little less comfortable, we are heading into predictable times not good for the golf business. We will likely see incredible struggles, like never before seen, for our course trying to pay back their debt. We will need to be really thinking outside the box.
.
Now, you have stated that the Cypress Head Golf Course has “never cost the tax payers of Port Orange a nickel.” I am not sure how you can spin that to come up with such a rational, but I believe the initial $4.3 million certainly came from the tax payers, and has never been fully paid back, and the proposed additional $1.6 million for this year will be coming from the tax payers. So to say it hasn’t cost the tax payers “a nickel” is a perspective you and I will just have to disagree with.
.
So, for those that have an actual and vested interest in what I said about the golf course, I hope you will go to the City website and watch the video. I believe it was agenda item #9. However, I will offer this shortened re-cap. What I proposed was for the council as a whole to take a very broad look at the history and future of the Cypress Head Golf Course, as well as the trends in the golf industry nationally (and regionally for that matter). I also asked that all options for the future of the golf course be brought forth for discussion and consideration. I believe I also made it perfectly clear, that my intent was to see Cypress Head Golf Course succeed well into the future, and be maintained as a viable and quality golf course for our residents. If anyone thinks that I would make a decision to put Cypress Head Golf Course $3 million in debt, using tax payer dollars to do it, without weighing out all options and hearing the pros and cons, then you clearly have me confused with someone else. I believe that the taxpayers that have elected me expect me to make decisions like this in a prudent manner, having weighed out all options. That is exactly what I intend to do.
 .
Lance, go back and watch the video and “listen to my words.” You should know from what we have talked about one on one, and from my comments last night, my intensions are to do what is best for the future of the Cypress Head Golf Course and for our residents. I am merely trying to make sure we know what the appropriate and responsible path is to take. I am sure you also know, and if not perhaps may want to start researching it, that Golf as a whole is in really big trouble as an industry. Golf courses all around our state are shutting down at an alarming rate. The number of golfers is declining rapidly. I do not want to see that happen at Cypress Head, so I think it is important that we do our best to try and get this right, for everyone’s sake.

I am so very disappointed. First and foremost there are serious issues there-legal ones and that will be a tangled mess-but I guess the taxpayers can stomach some more of that, and should not be a concern for anyone???? Second, that will have a negative impact on the taxing base for all of the homes in that community and surrounding communities and that takes a great deal of time to “bounce back” if it truly does. Wow, I am sure there are a handful that are happy with that position, but there are a whole lot of folks that will be negatively impacted and grossly disappointed. This is a backwards slide for sure.

Lance you should think twice and get your facts straight before opening your mouth (like father, like son) and we all remember you relieving yourself in public on the golf course. Your Dad is not the only one in town with a wealth of old stories.

Oh no, is that true about someone pissing on the golf course? I think that might be a police matter, urinating in public.

Whoa Nellie – 2015 looks to be a very interesting year.
Thankfully we the common citizens seem to have some sensible folks representing us now.
They are asking questions, probing and holding people accountable ! Happy New Year !

Now that we have been provided a picture of Lance, it looks like with a little makeup, a dress, and a pair of pumps he would be a decent bet to win, place, or show in the annual drag race on Duval Street.
