Did I hear Mayor Green publicly call Ted Noftall an Ass at tonight’s council meeting? And Ted held his composure in future dialogue with the mayor after this proclamation as if nothing ever happened. Wow!

Don’t get to upset about it. Ted is well aware that he is an “Ass” and he proudly wears that title. He’s good with it and good at it.

      Wonderful professionalism and decorum Mayor.
And we are attempting to recruit a top notch City Manager ? Better to hire a zookeeper.

At last night’s Council Meeting, TUE 06JAN2015, during section H-12 of the agenda, Council Discussion on Goals, councilmen Stiltner, Bastian, Burnette and Ford expressed their lists of goals for the City of Port Orange. I cannot remember what Mayor Green’s goal was.
BUT, Mayor Green did make an advisory, mentoring, instructional comment in response to the recited list of goals.
Mayor Green labeled the recited items as “wants”. And then followed by this paraphrase: [it’s great to have wants … but if you cannot afford them …]
Unless of course it’s the Golf Club at Cypress Head. Then the Mayor cannot hear or follow his own advice and instruction.
As of 09/30/2014, the current DEBT owed the City of Port Orange has expanded to . And last night, the CoPO will approved acquiring over $45,000.00 of mowing equipment for GCaCH. AND the last voiced estimate for the GCaCH renovation has expanded to $1.6 million.
The Golf Club at Cypress Head has special status. Taxpayer money just flows upward to it. I guess it’s not a “want”.

    Mr. Ford:
You are a board member of the above captioned.
Personally, the board assignment appears totally contrary to your consistent voice of reason, clearly stated positions, philosophy of city government, fiscal views, etc. The CoPO is very fortunate to have you on the Council and your re-election speaks for itself.
I urge you to consider resigning from the GCaCH, Inc board.
    Respectfully,

They again tabled any talk of the Chamber contract !
They know that will generate a lot of talk and put it off .

Except for Stiltner who is new, I think the rest of the council merely copied their goals list that they passed off last year and the year before and put it forth as new ideas. Not much new, same old “goals” that never get done. What a farce. None of them really have a clue on how to run a city, although they think they do and they do love to hear themselves speak.
Losing long term employees and not being able to replace them with first class people because of the policies and pay scale and stigma of working for such a city. is going to hurt Port Orange. Sooner or later the whole mess will blow up in their faces. Meanwhile Wiley Coyote Green is working his magic behind the scene with the help of his trusted city attorney and a few others in upper management.
So very sad for the taxpayers.

The others namely Gravel Gerty Director of AS and the new interim CFO. Green the Beast with his three headed female Hydra and Harden the False Prophet. We need to get rid of the Beast, the False Prophet, and the Hydra (three little horns) in order to have real reform and open and transparent governance before they repopulate Green’s regime with a bunch of incompetent imported self serving hacks, and before Green and his AS Director runs off the remaining honest institutional knowledge and destroys the future workforce.

Your are correct ‘ Who is ‘ the Mayor did not afford me the opportunity to respond. He started his rant asking or complaining that I had called him a “sneaky mayor ” in an e-mail about the Gold Course. At the 16 second mark you can hear me say ” Yes, would you like me to come up and elaborate ? ” He wisely declined and that is when he called me an ass.
Well the Mayor is a SNEAK. As far as the Golf Course goes I have 3 quick examples from recent to far back.
.1) On May 5th 2014 the Mayor and his former short serving Manager convened a SNEAK meeting out at the Golf Course during which the decision and scope of renovations was made without ever informing Council or the Chairman of the Golf Board.
    2) Several years ago The Mayor and his former long serving Manager had Kemper disregard City spending policies prohibiting breaking expenditures into segments under the Managers spending limit AND in SNEAK fashion awarded major bridge repairs at the Golf Course to his useful political protegee John Boy John Boy.
    3) Two decades ago the Mayor and his former long serving Manager found a SNEAK way to keep hundreds of thousands of dollars off golf course expenses out of the financial statements of the Golf Course and thus keep taxpayers in the dark as to just how big an annual drain that operation is on taxpayer wallets.
If I thought the Mayor had some more zingers to call me I would be pleased to give him 3 examples of his SNEAK dealings with every other department and operation in the City also.

      Mrs. Gardner:
While Mr. Berman’s heart may be in the citizen activist and scrutiny game, his approach and delivery are terrible. Most folks are semi polished, articulate, and plan their thoughts.
Mr. Berman does little to aid any cause when he speaks publicly. Utilize him in another manner, but keep him away from speaking publicly on the record. He is more of a hindrance than a help to the cause.
While on this subject, the usually well spoken Mark Schaffer did not help himself the other night when speaking against a prescription pill drop off box and disparaging the Police Department in a public forum.

Well CC…..I always enjoy reading your comments…your use of the term “polished” interests me…personally I think we have had enough of that …both on and off the dais…guess I read that as a code word for “managed message” or personal style with possibly some intent to deceive the listener as to who the speaker really is or what they really believe………..we had a recently defeated candidate who told us constantly how ethical she was……was she “polished”?…she was something for sure…..with a very contrived personal narrative and in light of recent events, rather obviously…….not a true one…..I have no idea what she really believed….did not during the campaign…..can judge her only by her actions…ethics to me can only be demonstrated by behavior….in our communities, our businesses, in our homes, in personal relationships, with our family members and children, and yes… in our marriages…
….SO……I am looking for real content and well intentioned people who will provide that in a direct, frank, and candid manner……I believe Corey tells us like he really sees it…..I find that refreshing .. …Corey Berman is a very bright man, who works in the private sector, who pays a lot of taxes, is a good family man and he really cares about city government . He cared enough to run for council and he showed up night after night at council meetings and he participated…..I think Corey is “as adverstised”……as some one who attends with Noftall, Gardner, Schaefer and White and sits in the “cheap seats” as Ted calls them and tries to understand what the hell the city is up to I applaud them ….and Corey……..and Corey’s message ….and I hope Corey changes nothing in his delivery and style when he returns……I like his authenticity and his genuineness….I hope we get that in our re-elected and newly elected council people too…this is a city that desperately needs to hear the truth about what is really going on…..we have a lot of murky stuff right now with various contracts before council….Halifax Paving, Quentin L Hampton, etc…….even I get that…a target rich environment…
I would encourage any of the critics of the so called activists to just try showing up and sitting through some of these 3 hour marathon city council meetings much less trying to get up and say something coherent to council……drink lots of coffee as part of your prep work…….pretty easy to sit on your couch at home and be critical of what is said and how its said….. I thought Mark was just fine….so guys……..tear that agenda apart like Ted, Mark and Mike do……they spend hours doing this……..try to really understand every item on the agenda….its a serious time commitment…and Ted, Mark and Corey are all still employed….so they do this in their “spare time” …thank God Mike and I are retired…trying to wrestle the truth out of the agenda is a job in itself…..Ted’s exchange on the lawn equipment purchases was very instructive…now that was a “polished” agenda……..where exactly are these pieces of equipment going? .took some digging to get to the truth……..OK CC…..that is my thinking…..

Diane, I agree with you that the more activists we have the better at getting to the bottom of agenda items and digging out the true facts. We need everyone, including Corey Berman who has his heart in the right place and is for the taxpayers of Port Orange. I do wish, however, that when he addresses the Council he would not start by saying “I’m Mr. Port Orange” because he is not.
Also it would help his presentation if he quit with the jokes, and was concise with his questions. I think that is what CC is getting at..it’s a little irritating. Ted Noftall on the other hand goes right at it nonstop with pertinent questions which he’s carefully prepared beforehand. Just my observation.

I am a strong supporter of most of the activists and the majority of their concerns but I have found Corey Berman to be repugnant. With the exception of the Fire fighters that he is a fawning groupie of, he is blindly and non-objectively critical of city employees. He is known to arbitrarily follow city vehicles around and stalk or harass city employees when they are performing their duties. He used to follow city vehicles for blocks and hang out at city hall filming workers and sometimes asking workers stupid questions like why are you standing there talking instead of working. He would say things like this to middle management employees discussing work plans and assume they were first tier workers simply socializing.
He used to park his huge van with political campaign signage right in front of the acces doorway of city hall at council meetings because he was too lazy to walk his fat ass 100 feet like everyone else and so he could ostentatiously flaunt his political message to anyone entering council chambers. He never had a substantive thing to say at the podium and kept bringing the banana peel in the front of his house every week. He was always obnoxious and adversarial about someone or something without adding any depth to important arguments. I believe he threw a bad light on activists by association and that the activists became more successful and respected since Mr. Berman has taken a hiatus. I am sure that he is a good family man and I believe he would better serve the community by sticking to that forte.

But yes P.O.E. and others – I have to concur with your assessments. He does detract from the intelligent, well spoken, astute activists.

But Mr. Berman or anyone else has a right to speak at any Council Meeting he desires. And I encourage him to continue to do so

Every time I would see Corey Berman step up at council meetings I would think “Oh no not him again”.
He would ramble on and on making no real sense and you had to wonder what the hell he was talking about most of the time. I believe he is a hinderance rather than an asset to the activist’s cause. If he wants to help let him stay home and address envelopes or some such job.

Exactly – Mr. Berman is remembered for his “Mr Port Orange” name change when he is at the podium. Also remembered for utilizing his three minutes at the podium to speak of banana peel cleanup at US1 and Dunlawton area.
Nobody can recall him speaking of a pertinent topic in an intelligent manner. (Kind of like the senile Mayor)
For a citizen activist to be effective, they need to be informed, present the issues on an even keel and stick to facts. If not, the Council and citizens will not buy in to their point. Newton White is a great example. He is just a common Joe who works for Publix, but knows the issues well and presents the facts in a concise direct manner. Now Mr. Gardner is good too, he prefaces his talks with a little story to open up. Problem there is it’s subtracted from his three minutes. Also, a good citizen activist can compose a good written request by e- mail.
Keep up the good work, particularly on this golf course and Chamber issue. They are feeling the heat !
