Could this be another city staff OOPS.
Why is our city staff trying to sell this dirt this week on the cheap when the below project starts in a few months?

State transportation officials — at a public hearing last week in Port Orange — described the massive project, expected to take three years and make both directions of I-95 three lanes wide between Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach. New ramps connecting I-95 to Interstate 4 and U.S. 92 will improve safety, engineers said.

Why, why, why? Because they don’ t know what they are doing and can’ t look beyond their noses.

” Halifax later indicated to staff that they had no interest in the dirt and simply just put a bid out there ”
If 10 years of foot dragging and excuse making is not enough to have Council reach the conclusion that Halifax has zero credibility regarding completion of the 2005 Lake B requirements and subsequent modifications then the statement above likely will not either.
But while Council can get away with not putting taxpayer interests front and center for another 2 years they are no longer going to get away with pissing on taxpayer legs and telling them it is raining out. Citizens For a Better Port Orange are on to their phony never ending obfuscating excuses and intend exposing them at every turn.
Recently elected School Board member John Hill called for the firing of the incompetent School Superintendent at his 2nd Board meeting and she subsequently resigned within a week. THAT IS KIND OF ELECTED LEADERSHIP PORT ORANGE IS DEVOID OF.
Councilman Ford who serves as Chairman of the Golf board would do well to follow John Hills example and find the courage to likewise call for Kempers removal in the wake of the Dept of Health inspection reports that we are told were withheld from the city by Kemper.
That is unlikely, not because Ford feels that Kemper should be retained but rather because he is hell bent on loaning the Golf Club another $1.6 million dollars and all he has in the way of analysis has been provided by the thoroughly disgraced Kemper. Firing Kemper would not fit well with ‘ giv-em another loan to go with the existing loan they cannot repay and everything will be fine narrative ‘.
Each member of Council needs to put a picture of John Hill next to their pillow and pray that God gives one of them the courage to call things for what they are in a clear articulate manner rather than the mamby pamby statements they have been making for 4 years, 2 years and 2 months respectively.
Reducing the Halifax $1,050,000 performance bond to less that the cost to complete the work required to complete this project is a total betrayal of taxpayer interests. And where is the hard analysis indicating the cost to complete that justifies a reduction in the performance bond. Well like with Kemper providing the Golf renovation analysis — Halifax is providing the reclaimed lake completion analysis.
And who beyond the Citizens For a Better Port Orange is scrutinizing either analysis. CERTAINLY NO ONE ON COUNCIL.
The only honest joe in all of this is our contractor Mayor. Yes he is a “sneaky mayor ” as Ted has correctly called him, but at least he is an honest ” sneak ” in that he has consistently ran interference that has allowed his contractor pal Halifax to remove an un-known quantity of fill dirt for the benefit of un-kown persons for a decade with zero accountability.
The Port Orange Council should be ashamed of themselves.
