Manager Harden,
Unspecified ” additional info “ that is ‘ expected ‘  with no greater specificity than ‘ prior to the next Council meeting ‘ may cut it in government land but it such antics would not be tolerated in the private sector.
Only in government land where daily excuses are the norm and not the exception would a CEO even think to speak as you have just spoken. This information should have been made available for review and discussion months in advance of any hard decision to spend $1.6 million taxpayer dollars. Dollars which by the way need to be spent across all of Port Orange’s recreational needs and not just at the golf course.
Surely even you must realize the utter insanity of what is being proposed IN THAT a $3 million loan carrying a 30 year amortization is planned to cover capital renovations valued at less than $ 1 million that have an expected useful life of 20 years – with the rest comprised of soft costs and existing un-payable debt being rolled into the new $3 million loan. If you were still around when golf course finances buckle under such an arrangement perhaps you might come to understand why such a proposal would be laughed out of every bank in Volusia County.
Yours and your Finance Directors continual reference to incomplete reports that are not being released, makes me wonder when ” errors in financial data ” acquired Statutory exemption status for not releasing requested public records.

I expect to have additional information available prior to the City Council meeting on 2/17. We have found nothing to suggest any improprieties. The delay in producing the reports you have been seeking has occurred because we know there are errors in the financial data, but we have not yet been able to determine the correct data so that an accurate report can be produced. Progress on this type of work continues to be hampered by accounting staff vacancies.

They know too well. It’s been explained to me thusly: “a vote against these renovations and the Cypress Head community is political suicide.”
    This is political expediency.
    Excellent letter Mr. Noftall.
