Port Orange, FLA
A woman’s body was found floating in the Halifax River near the Seven Seas Marina at the Dunlawton Bridge in Port Orange Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and other law enforcement agencies were at the scene investigating.
Officials said they are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
“There was a disturbance in the area of the south Daytona ramp last night sometime around midnight, maybe even a little bit before that,” said Port Orange Police Chief Gerald Monahan said.
The body was found by boaters early Wednesday morning. WFTV found out that crews were searching the same area Tuesday night for a middle-aged woman who had been reported missing.
“We do have a report there was some activity on the river late last night and we’re trying to see if it was tied into the body we found,” said Monahan.
Police from Port Orange and South Daytona were searching the water and the air after they got a call that a woman had jumped from a boat and tried to swim back to shore after an argument with someone else on the boat. But, authorities have not said whether she’s the same woman whose body was found.
The identity of the woman is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin. Port Orange detectives are conducting the investigation. Anyone with information concerning the case is asked to please contact Detective Michael Wallace at 386-506-5885.
