Is Port Orange City Officials Considering Pushing For an Increase in Local Sales Taxes?

Many Politicians Have Never Seen a New Tax They Didn’t Like

New Port Orange City Manager

I agreed in principal to the survey which would determine if a referendum to increase sales tax would be feasible.  I was operating as a member of the county leadership that attends the meeting.  All City Managers agreed on the survey.  Not all of us agreed on paying for it and we made our thoughts known in the meeting.  I did not speak up but concurred that I wasn’t sure that the municipalities should pay.  The resolution is going to County commission on Sept 10th and the Port Orange share would be between $7400-11,000 depending on the cost of the survey.
We have not yet presented anything to our council to agree or disagree so this is not fate accompli.
I hope this eases your concerns.
Best, mhj

Subject: Does Port Orange favor a higher sales tax
Good evening  Manager Johansson,
Today’s  News Journal editorial advises that   ‘ representatives from the county’s 16 municipalities recently approved a plan to hire a consultant  to survey the public on a sales tax imitative that would be placed on the 2016 ballot ‘
Presumably Port Orange is included in those 16 municipalities and I would inquire as to:
*  who made that commitment on the part of Port Orange
*  under what authority was that person operating
* what is the dollar value of that commitment
Thank you
