I-95 NB in Volusia shut down after robbery suspect crashes SUV

Port Orange, Fla. — Officials said I-95 northbound is closed in Volusia County due to an incident involving an armed robbery suspect Wednesday.

Authorities said the southbound lanes remain open.

WFTV found out that an armed robbery happened earlier in the day in Daytona Beach, where people were tied up and weapons were taken.

“We received a call from the Daytona Beach Police Department this morning, a BOLO, be-on-the-lookout, for a suspect in an armed robbery in a motel up in their jurisdiction, where weapons were taken and people were tied up,” Port Orange Chief  Gerald M. Monahan, Jr.

The man was spotted in town, and when he drove onto the interstate, officers said they followed him.

The man crashed the SUV on I-95 at mile marker 256 in Port Orange.

When officers approached the car, the man pulled out his gun, officers said.

Authorities said they fired several shots, but did not release the man’s condition.
