PORT ORANGE, Fla. –
A Spruce Creek high school student was shocked with a Taser on Monday by a deputy who was breaking up a fight at the school, according to school officials.
Volusia County Public Schools officials said two students were fighting at dismissal at Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange when a school resource officer tried to break up the fight.
The students, a ninth-grade boy and an 11th grade were not compliant to the deputy’s orders and the deputy deployed a Taser to the 11th-grader, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.
Prior to the deputy arriving, the 11th-grader suffered a minor injury in the fight. He was checked out and cleared by Port Orange paramedics, deputies said.
Officials said the school will be taking disciplinary action. Both students were released to their parents and deputies will investigate how the fight started.
Deputies said it’s likely the students involved in the fight could face misdemeanor charges.
The names of the students involved were not released
